They don't make em chairs like they use too.

..............................................................................................................................................................................
Short Talk:
Half the year almost gone... and finals are coming up.....
..............................................................................................................................................................................

In today's world everything is basically mass produced... but they do have quality check don't they... I hope they do....do they???

Well... they might have... I am gonna present you guys with a story of a poor chair... or is it the poor sitter?? hmm... dunno la...

Here goes... in Swinburne these days... our classes are all using "comfy" kinda "stylish" plastic chairs... and I think when they created the chairs... they forgot to consider people who are big in size... so on one faithful day, I was late for my class ... but little did I know... this is a day I will be .... well... entertained... I know after finishing up this post... you all will think I am one mean arse... but I can't help it... because it was... well... you will know later....

Anyways... back to story....so I was in class... sitting down copying notes and all... and there is this annoying guy who gives annoying answers and ask annoying questions.... as I ignored all those annoying questions and answers and continued to copy... a guy one table in front of me stretched himself... while doing a biggg stretching he lean himself backwards and the next thing was... a loud crack followed with a bang sound... and waddaya know.... they guy broke the chair! and he fell backwards....and his head was on the table. He had a hard time to climb up and our tutor had to help him up.

Photobucket
The guy who fell....

Photobucket
The poor chair...

Photobucket
RIP dear chair....

Everyone was so stunt... and was like ... how the heck did he break the chair... the girls in front kept giggling and looking at him... as for me... my first impression was ... OMG... did he hurt his poor head... but seeing that he was ok... I wanted to laugh out loud! But I controlled myself... do not want to embarrass him any further....

And in case if you guys are wondering if they guy who broke the chair is the same person as the guy who was annoying me... Well... I will leave that part for you to ponder about.... *winks*

Cheers...

Mama - (Mothers Day Dedication)

It is this time of the year again. The day that we all remember how much our dear mother has sacrificed for us. Their undying love for their child, and the unbreakable bond between a mother and child.

Photobucket

To All the mothers out there:-
Happy Mothers day! Sometimes your child may hurt you a lot but I am sure deep down in their heart they love you a lot. We are all not perfect but we love you because you have done so much for us. Your undying love and tender care all these years has certainly touched our hearts and is not forgotten.

To my Mother:-
Mum, know I may not be your perfect son, I know I go against you a lot. I am rebellious and inconsiderate and selfish at times and I know all these have hurt you. You said I have changed a lot these years, I can feel it too, I guess I am growing up and I am starting to have my own thoughts that you do not agree with. I am sorry if I have said and done things that I have hurt you, all these are unintentional.

No matter what happens in the future Mum, be it something bad or something good. Mum, I just want you to know and I want to say.... "MUM I LOVE YOU!"

A dedication to all mothers, Mama by Spice Girls.

She used to be my only enemy and never let me be free
Catching me in places that I knew I shouldn't be
Every other day, I crossed the line, I didn't mean to be so bad
I never thought you would become the friend I never had

Back then, I didn't know why, why you were misunderstood
So now, I see through your eyes, all that you did was love
Mama, I love you, Mama, I care,
Mama, I love you, Mama, my friend
My friend

I didn't want to hear it then, but I'm not ashamed to say it now,
Every little thing you said and did was right for me
I had a lot of time to think about, about the way I used to be
Never had a sense of my responsibility

Back then, I didn't know why, why you were misunderstood
So now, I see through your eyes, all that you did was love
Mama, I love you, Mama, I care,
Mama, I love you, Mama, my friend
My friend, you're my friend

But now, I'm sure I know why, why you were misunderstood
So now, I see through your eyes, all I can give you is love
Mama, I love you, Mama, I care,
Mama, I love you, Mama, my friend

Mama, I love you, Mama, I care
Mama, I love you, Mama, my friend
You're my friend, you're my friend

(Whoa whoa whoa whoa, Mama whoa whoa)

Mama, I love you, Mama, I care,
Mama, I love you, Mama, my friend
(repeat and fade out)

I will be spending my Valentine's day with my students. Candle light dinner with them? Well, more like under the fluorescent light, white board and books and heaps of shouting from them and I.

HAPPY CHINESE NEW YEAR!新年快乐!!

Photobucket

Wow...time really is zooming past fast. 3 more days and the Chinese will be celebrating the Chinese New Year.

哇...时间过的好快哦。。。一转眼就快华人新年咯。在多三天,就是新年咯!!你们紧张吗?兴奋嘛??

Photobucket
猫猫穿衣服咯!好可爱哦!!kitty is wearing shirt...cute!!

Come to think of it I have been living in this world for a good 22 years, well coming 23 years. Sighs... I am getting old. I suddenly realise that life can be really routine. For 23 good years I have been celebrating the Chinese New Year the same way. Suddenly, I feel really tired, the mood somehow just isn't there. But the very one thing I look forward to Chinese New Year is that most of my friends will be back here in Kuching. Sadly, this year my dear sister Florence won't be able to make in back.

This year, my new year will be wee bit different. Main difference would be that I will be working at The Junk restaurant on the 3rd and 4th day of Chinese New Year. Well I don't think I am gonna earn much, I just did it to relief my friend for 2 days.

说真的,今年,我新年有点不同。因为呢。。。我在新年初三就得去做工咯。其实,我没那么勤劳啦。。。我只是去代替朋友两天而已咯。没什么大不了。。。。顶多我累而已。哈哈!

Well, the streets in Kuching now is filled with Chinese New Year decorations. Shopping complexes and Mall are blaring with Chinese New Year songs.

Boulevard Shopping Mall

..............................................................................................................................................................................
Short Talk:
Sigh...what a way to start of with a new year.... being sick... like really sick....cough, headache, flu and fever... all in one package.
..............................................................................................................................................................................

Kuching is definitely not a shopping haven. If you say shopping, the first few places that pop into one’s mind would be KL, Singapore or even Bangkok. Kuching would be no where in the map for shopping.

Basically, there are only roughly 8 shopping centres in Kuching alone. Believe me they are not Mid-valley mega mall or 1-Utama in KL or Vivo City in Singapore. Some of the shopping centres are really crappy which in my opinion needs a major face-lift. Currently for me I usually shop at Tun Jugah or Riverside Shopping complex and at times Sarawak Plaza. These are the 3 shopping centres that I rate as “shoppable” place. Meaning, I can get at least something decent from there.

As for electronic gadgets, I would go to Saberkas. Saberkas is something like the IT centre in Kuching. You can find a lot of good deals for electronic gadgets in there. You can call it the “Low Yat Plaza of Kuching” or “Funan IT Mall of Kuching”, whichever you like to call it.

Over the years, Kuchingites has been craving for new, trendier, hippie, stylish, and bigger malls. Thus, that is one of the major reasons why the people down here fly over to KL, or Singapore to shop. But these days, due to the exchange rate, most people opted for KL, since we share the same currency. This resulted in? Well, bigger market for KL and that is why in KL you can see major expansion of older malls, like 1-Utama and Sunway Pyramid. Not only that, new bigger malls like Bejaya Time Square and more recently, The Garden and Pavillion KL.

Over in Kota Kinabalu, or locally known as KK, they too are in a Mall building frenzy. Within this year, they have a few mega malls being built around the city. These are not just small malls, big ones, at least 200 over retail outlets inside. The biggest being 1-Borneo which is roughly the size of Mid-Valley Mega Mall in KL. The hyper mall has over 600 retail outlets. It makes me wonder though, with a population of roughly 400,000-500,000 people and a metropolitan area of 900,000(which I doubt is correct) can sustain so many of the mega malls currently being built there. In all seriousness, Kuching itself, not the metropolitan area; we already have well over 600,000 people. But, our shopping centres are like crap ass. We don’t have this mega mall building craze down here.

Even though, developers down here in Kuching are not into the mega mall building craze, we are not left out in building bigger and nicer malls. Well, I am not sure is it correct to state that we are not in a Mall or shopping centre building craze, but in these 2 years a few new malls are being constructed. One of them being the highlight of this post, but I will go on to that later.

We roughly have, 6 new malls coming up. 3 of those being big ones. Another few under proposal or planning.

The first to open amongst them would be Boulevard Lifestyle Shopping Mall. They proudly claimed themselves as being the biggest lifestyle mall in Sarawak. This in my very honest opinion would be a very wrong statement currently.

Photobucket
Night View

Photobucket
the crappy signboard

Before I move on, a brief introduction about Boulevard. Boulevard is own by a timber tycoon down here in Sarawak. They already have a Boulevard Mall in Miri which I heard is smaller than its sister mall down here in Kuching. I also heard that the Boulevard Kuching is much more “posh” than the one in Miri. As I quoted “I HEARD”, so any mistake or error in the above statement I made, I am sorry.

Photobucket
Sushi King is open in Boulevard now!

When Boulevard Kuching first open, the Mall was partially completed it was still dusty and a lot of the shops are still not open. Majority of the retail space has been taken up by Boulevard hypermarket and Departmental Store. The rest of the retail outlets would be Guardian, Kenny Roasters, Pizza Hut, KFC, Sushi King, Popular Bookstore, to name a few.

Photobucket
Sushi King!!

Photobucket
too many people... =.=

Photobucket

As they claimed they are the biggest, but if you walked inside the mall, you would feel like it is just like Riverside or Sarawak Plaza in the city centre. In all honesty, it took me, say 15 minutes to complete walking the whole mall and already I am feeling bored with it.

Photobucket
World of cartoons, second branch in Kuching

To me, the mall in a way disappointed me. Why the mall bores me is that most of the shop inside sells women’s apparel. Even the shop that sells shoes is for women. I mean I would rather hang out in Sarawak Plaza for I can get more guy stuff there. For Boulevard the only few shops that I can go would be Sushi King, Guardian, Pizza Hut, Converse, Popular, and the Gent’s section for the Boulevard departmental store which is not very appealing to me. Minus off the food outlets that I mentioned I can only visit 2-4 shops in the entire mall. Now that is real boring!

Photobucket

Photobucket
its either kids or ladies apparel....sighs

Photobucket

Photobucket
Part of the Mall

I would only go there, when I feel bored and really nothing better to do. But now, I am waiting for another mall to open in Kuching. That is the Spring. It is Kuching largest 2-storey mall. With 150 retail outlets, a gourmet supermarket, an excellent food court. the Spring Mall seems far more promising than Boulevard. I’ve passed there a few times and the interior of the Mall is way nicer than that of Boulevard. The shops they offer are far more attractive. They even have Kenny Rogers Roasters and Sushi King, Starbucks Coffee, Secret Recipe, Manhattan Fish Market and lots more. Another plus side, Spring is so much nearer to my house and thank god for that. *winks*

In another 3 more days and Spring would be officially open. I will cover Spring a bit later.

Back to work now.

Mid-Autumn Festival 中秋节

Today, tonight the Chinese will be celebrating another one of their many festivals. Tomorrow the moon will be in full bloom and many young and old, well mostly the old will be gazing up at the beautiful moon beaming down at us.

At the same time little toddlers will be running around with their beautiful lanterns. I believe not only toddlers will be having fun with the lanterns even teenagers will be having tones of fun playing with lanterns.

Mooncakes will be served, and while chewing on the mooncakes some people will gaze up at the beautiful moon.

In case you guys do not know what actually is Mid-Autumn Festival about. Let me explain to you guys.

The Mid-Autumn Festival revolves around the moon and there are many traditional stories concerning the moon. It is believed that the Mid-Autumn Festival originated more than 2,000 years ago and in the old days the festival was devoted to praying to the gods. Because China is largely an agricultural society, the 15th day of the 8th lunar month happens to occur after the autumn harvest. That day the sky is generally clear and the weather fine and the people celebrate with post-harvest feasts, signifying the principle that “the divine and the human are one”. During the Song Dynasty, due to the influence of learned people, praying to the moon became widespread. The eating of mooncakes started towards the end if Yuan Dynasty because of a folk story of that time and later the observation of the Mid-Autumn Festival became important.

So far there are three folklores about the Mid-Autumn Festival. Since tomorrow is the Mid-Autumn Festival, I’ll celebrate it by telling the 3 folklores in this post.

Once, a beautiful lady known as Sister Yao married into the Yang family. Sadly her mother-in-law mistreated her. She was nasty towards Sister Yao and demands her to do the household chores during the day and by night she has to work on the hand loom.

Her mother-in-law treats her as if she was a workhorse and showed no mercy towards her.

As the harsh days passed by and soon it was the 15th day of the 8th month and the moon was round, bright. It was a lovely sight.

The wretched mother-in-law came into Sister Yao’s room bringing with her an extra load of cotton for the poor girl to weave. She then commented “People say that you, Sixth Sister Yao is a capable person. Turn this seven jin of cotton into cloth.” And she went out of the room.

Sister Yao was in a dilemma, she thought even if she did not go to sleep. She can’t possibly weave the seven jin of cotton into clothes in just one night. As she tried her best weaving the cottons the oil lamp’s light went out. She had no choice but to bring the workload outside as the moon was shining brightly that night.

It was already the fourth watch and Sister Yao was still weaving. If she can’t finish the work when day breaks she will get beaten by that wretched mother-in-law of hers.

Suddenly, a dragon boat appeared from the moon and started sailing towards Sister Yao’s direction. It was a boat full of immortals. One of the immortals called out to Sister Yao, “Sixth Sister Yao go to sleep now, don’t weave anymore.” She replied the immortals that if she doesn’t finish the weaving, she will get beaten tomorrow. Without any reply the boat full of immortals disappeared into thin air followed by strong wind blowing which forced Sister Yao to stop weaving and go back into the house. The Strong winds continued the whole night and poor Sister Yao could do nothing but to wait and get beaten tomorrow morning.

True enough, when morning arrived, Sister Yao was beaten. Then the mother-in-law when into the room to check how many jins of cotton had Sister Yao weaved. There a loud shriek from the room for the wooden loom has turned into a golden loom. It was really gold.

The mother-in-law inquired about what had Sister Yao done the night before. Sister Yao then told what happened from the oil lamp to the dragon boat incident.

The mother-in-law then remembered about the traditional lore that during the mid-autumn night, immortals would leave the moon palace on a dragon boat. For those who are lucky enough to see them, whatever they touch would turn into gold!

From that day onwards the wretched mother-in-law changed her attitude towards her daughter in law. She started to treat her nicely and they work together in the chores and they lived harmoniously ever after.

The story was passed down and the custom of gazing at the moon until the fourth watch became prevalent. It is said that the custom is based on the hope of seeing the dragon boat.

So for those of you, who wish to get rich, don’t forget to do some moon gazing until the fourth watch on the 15th day of the 8th month. Who knows you might see a dragon boat full of immortals. LOL…

It is said that during the time of the legendary Emperor Yao, there were ten suns which took turns to illuminate the earth. But one day, out of playfulness the ten suns appeared together in the human realm.

One sun brings prosperity to humanity, but ten suns spell DOOM. The human realm suffered from the ten suns.

An order was given to Hou Yi a excellent archer to check on the suns. Her wife decided to follow him. They saw the pitiful state of the human realm as the result of the appearance of the ten suns.

Hou Yi decided to subdue the ten suns. As he prepared to shoot, his wife asked him to stop as he was violating the God of Heaven’s instructions by killing the suns. But Hou Yi did not care, he continued on with his plan. As the nine suns was subdued, one was being left alive.

As his violation on the instructions given to him Hou Yi was banished to earth as a normal human being. His wife followed him to dwell among the humans. They were astounded by the beauty of the human realm.

Suddenly, out of no where a man kneeled before Hou Yi and asked Hou Yi the divine archer to accept him as his disciple and teach him archery. The man introduced himself as Feng Meng and he wish to learn archery to subdue demons and improve the welfare of people. Hou Yi accepted Feng Meng as his disciple and taught him well.

One day, a strange beast attacked the villagers, Hou Yi came to the rescue by using one arrow he killed the beast. Hou Yi became the hero of the human realm. He was practically being worshiped by the people. Since then, Hou Yi changed into someone else whom Chang-e doesn’t recognize anymore. On the other side, Feng Meng felt jealous the attention Hou Yi is getting from the people.

One day, Hou Yi was looking for Chang-e, he took with him the elixir of life which he has obtained from the Queen Mother of the West. He describe the use of the elixir that if a person drinks it he or she can fly at will but when two people drink it they can be young forever and never age. Hou Yi suggested that they both drink the elixir and dominate the human realm forever. Chang-e felt sad towards the changed in Hou Yi’s attitude and character and wondered how long could she remained together with him.

Suddenly Feng Meng called out to Hou Yi, saying that he has a gift to offer to his master. Hou Yi decided to go and take a look. As he looked for Feng Meng, Chang-e decided to drink the elixir alone and leave Hou Yi. At that moment Hou Yi was killed by Feng Meng. Chang-e decided to go to somewhere cold and desolate. Thus, she drifted to the moon.

The legend of Chang-e was passed down. During the Mid-Autumn Festival, the Chinese would gaze at the faraway moon and think of Chang-e.

Chang Ting this is not a story about you ar eventhough both of you have "Chang" in your name. LOL…joking...joking

The story of Chang-e is a very popular story for the Mid-Autumn Festival.

The last but not least is about mooncakes presented on Mid-Autumn Festival.

It was the end of the Song Dynasty and the Mongols ruled China. The Mongols were harsh towards the people as they were afraid of the people bringing an up rise. To control them anyone who dares to disobey them was punished severely and people hated them.

They even tried to slaughter all the people which they can’t. Someone came up with the idea that a Soldier was to be stationed in each and every household which will be able to stop the people to communicate with one another and plan on how to attack the Mongols.

One day a group of people gathered together secretly without the knowing of the Tatars. They were planning on how to subdue the Tatars, which they found it hard for there were Tatars in each and every household.

A wise old man then thought of a brilliant idea. Since the next day was the Mid-Autumn Festival, each household will be given a circular cake. The people are being instructed to cut-open the cake and it was a must to cut the cakes open.

Everyone thought the plan was brilliant and the plan was being implemented. In order not to let any suspicion from the Tatars. Each household was being told that it was a tradition to cut open the cakes and eat the fillings. When the people cut open the cakes, they found a note inside the cake. The notes instructed the people to kill the Tatars at the third watch that night. As the third watch approaches, each people went into action. Some added rat poison to the cakes and let the Tatars eat it.

Later, to commemorate the joyous occasion of getting their liberty and peace, the people would eat the cakes during the Mid-Autumn Festival. The cakes then underwent changes before they evolved into the mooncakes that we see today with many different fillings.

How very true, today mooncakes come in many different shapes and sizes and also flavours. Some are good… some awful.

Enjoy your mooncakes and moon gazing. I am off to play my lantern now. Cheers!

edz-lfe.blogspot would like to wish everyone a Happy Moon Cake Festival or Happy Mid-Autumn Festival. 祝大家中秋节快乐。。。

Celebrating 50 years of Independece

MERDEKA! MERDEKA! MERDEKA!...

MERDEKA simply means independence in the Malay language. This year Malaysia is going big. We are celebrating 50 years of Independence since 31 August 1957. At the same time this year has been designated as Visit Malaysia Year 2007. Lots and lots of interesting events have been planned for this year as I said before we are celebrating 50 years of nationhood. But there is a mistake in that, it is actually not 50 years but only 44 years. All of you must be wondering why is it 44 years and not 50 years? And if that is the case why are we claiming it to be 50 years, errr... Long story. Will explain it in another post.

For this post I would like to focus more on the New Proton Persona.

PERSONA, Proton's Pride and Joy
_____________________________________________________________________

About a week ago, Proton a Malaysian car manufacturer launch a new sedan which was designated as the Proton Persona. Thus, they called it their pride and joy. I was really anxious to see what will this new sedan look liked. I believed a lot of people were down right curious how does the car look. They cleverly revealed parts of the car out. Just like when they wanted to launch the Proton Savvy. They showed the head lamps which looks cool.

The Proton Gen-2

Alas, the day of launching has arrived. When I looked at the ads revealing the car. My mouth just fell open... literally fell open not because of excitement but sheer disappointment. The car resembled a lot like the Proton Gen - 2, put it this way it was Gen-2 stretched! It was a Gen-2 with an arse! I was really disappointed.

The 16000 cc Proton Persona was to replaced the old tattered looking Proton Wira. But the new Persona is not without its good points. Researched has been done to improve the Persona. One of the improvements was the rear headroom which is now 980mm. Something which the Gen 2 lacks. I thought the CD player looks funky.

The boot of the car seems to be very big. The interior is quite spacious. But I don't quite like the steering wheel. Overall I think Persona is a so so car. But for the price they are offering for a 1.6 cc car it is quite a catch.

But personally, I would rather go for a Myvi or a Toyota Vios. LOL... I never quite fancy Proton's cars.

Always Interesting

I think I have just lost my social life. I have been extremely busy until I do not have anytime to update this dear blog of mine. To all the readers out there, please accept my sincere apologies for the sudden disappearance. These few weeks I have done nothing but going to the junk and work and then come back home prepare exam paper for my primary students and then at the same time helping my sister out with her assignment. Other than that, sending my mum to work, picking her from work and repaired my car because the stupid central locking went nuts, it was making this nasty sound which can be clearly heard even if you are a few meters away.

So I have been meaning to post this up for weeks, but I did not get the chance to do so. Well since I have the chance now, I am going to share this really freaky incident with all you.

The day was Saturday 07-07-07, to some it is an auspicious day because of the number, and to some it is just another normal day, to some it is a really unlucky day. To me, it is one heck of an interesting day. During my morning tuition class, my old pal Sung text messaged me and asked me if I were free and do I want to join him to go to Saberkas, well since I have nothing to do of course I agreed. Seems like he is planning to get a new camera, his old camera is…well crap is all I can, cause there is no cable, no box, charger what so ever that should come with a camera. Furthermore the reason why he wanted a new camera was because he will be flying off to Calgary, Canada. (Envy! Envy! I wanna go too! >.<)

Sung's lunch...pork rib rice

my lunch...chef's special fried noodles

After lunch off for a haircut

We went to this camera retailer at ground floor, and we spend quite sometime inside the shop, choosing the camera and at the same time listening to a bunch of craps by the salesman. YES! Bunch of craps by him because in the end he could not make up his mind about the importance of mega pixels for a camera. Why? Well at first he introduce my friend this Casio camera and said that it has lots of functions and it is 10 mp and it is a bargain for there is a free gift. A watch that will cost RM 300.00. But Sung decided not to settle for the Casio, his sharp eye caught the side of a Sony, so he asked the salesman about it and tested it. But it was still not very good and it’s too pricey. Suddenly, another camera caught his eye. This time it is a canon. The price is good, and it is a trustworthy brand, especially for cameras. I also thought that this is a good camera. It is equipped with image stabilizer software. Function wise, not bad too a lot to choose from. It is user friendly. It is 7.1mp, 3x optical zoom and a lot more which I can’t remember.

Grrrr... I hate the person who styled my hair... very un-stylish!

But overall I thought the cam was a pretty good bargain. It comes with a free 1 GB memory card, free leather pouch, umbrella and many more goodies. Tempting huh? Well I got tempted by it…sighs… now I have a new aim, that is to get hold of that cam, that is why I am slogging away so that I can get hold of that camera as soon as possible. Hope I am able to reach that goal soon. Thanks Sung, for enticing me to get a cam. (=. =)

Smoke...hmmm...someone having a BBQ?

Traffic jam...GAH!

But what was the most interesting thing that happened that day was when we witness a Hyundai Showroom on fire and also to witness the competency of Kuching’s firemen. Yes they were late! Because we found out that after 5 to 10 minutes while stuck in the traffic jam, suddenly the fire truck popped out from behind. By the time they reached the scene, the fire was pretty bad. The 3rd floor was completely burnt.

The usual... late......

Managed to squeeze in front

More smoke

I see flames!

OMFG!

shit! that is bad

The fire was so bad, that when Sung scrolled down his window we can feel the heat of the fire. One thing puzzles me though, with such intense heat why were there still people standing so near it. Well, I guess these people are non-other than the kepo-gongs (busybodies). The traffic jam was partly caused by these people who parked their vehicles at one side of the road and walked over the other side just to see the building being engulfed in flames.

Kepo gongs

It was a sad sight though; I truly pity the owner of the shop. Hope he can claim the insurance and fixed his shop up soon. So 07-07-07 is definitely not an auspicious day for him. And yes, another interesting day with Sung. I hope to see you back in Kuching soon dude. Cheers!
